Why did you decide to sign a contract with Detva?

I decided to sign a contract with Detva after hearing wonderful things about our manager, Ernest Bokros. His vast experience coaching the National team and other clubs around Europe presented me with the opportunity to learn and develop from one of the best. I was also attracted to the small town feel that Detva has. I think it allows the team to connect with our supporters and give back to the community.

What is your goal in the new season?

My goal for the season is to help the club make the playoffs. It starts with building a relationship with my teammates and the supporters early in the season. In doing so, the best in everyone is brought out and the level of our play will elevate. Its been a crazy summer with COVID-19, but I am in good health and ready to make an impact.

What do you expect in Slovakian league?

I have heard great things about the Tipsport Liga; it’s a fast and physical league with a lot of skilled players. I couldn’t be more excited to make the transfer and begin my career in Detva. I have never been to Slovakia, so I am excited to travel around the country and experience all the great things that Slovakia has to offer. The opportunity to embrace a new culture will help me grow as a person and give me memories that will last a lifetime.

Can you describe yourself as a player?

My game is at its best when I am skating; my skating helps me play a strong two-way game. I take pride in the defensive zone, finishing my checks, and being hard to play against. Being engaged in the defensive zone helps me create offense by getting loose pucks and moving them quick and smart. I like to think I have a good shot from the point and do a good job of getting those shots on net, which can create offense for the club.

Do you know some guys who played in Slovakian league?

I was teammate with Roman Durný last season in Norfolk, who played on the National Team. I have spoken with him a little over the summer and he says I am going to love it.

Do you know Jonathan Charbonneau and Trevor Cox, who will play with you in Detva?

I am excited to play with Trevor and Jonathan. While I have never formally met them or played against them, they have been teammates with some people that I have played with in the past – the hockey world is very small. I have only heard great things about them and it’s going to be quite the journey for the three of us.

Your father and uncle played in Europe. Did you talk with them about your transfer?

My Dad, Andy, and Uncle, Steve, were a big part of helping me through this process. It’s a lifestyle that they experienced firsthand, and they are now preparing me for the European life both on and off the ice. They are great role models to look up to and I hope I can have the same success they did. My mom, Ronalee, lived in Europe with my dad when he was playing; she also made a huge impact on my decision with her insight.
